  • The midlevel price and outstanding quality of the Panasonic TC-PST60 series make it our strongest TV recommendation ever.

  • The TC-P50ST60 is one of the best value TVs for this year. At $1100 it will be a great seller and the price may get a bit better before the year is over. It's got good 3D, great blacks, a simple but effective remote control, ample Smart TV features, and pretty good looks. Samsung PN51F5500 is one competitor, though I prefer the ST60. The Samsung UN50F6400 is an LED competitor.

  • All in all, I found the new look to strike a good balance, offering more options on the screen (so less navigation is required), but presenting everything a clean, logical way.

  • The Panasonic TC-PS60 plasma TV's low price, high-end picture quality, and bare-bones Smarts make it one of the best values we've ever seen.

  • The Panasonic TC-P60S60 (MSRP $1299) is one of the first (if not the first) 2013 series available on the consumer market. While Sharp is shipping a few of its new models, Panasonic's S60 series became available for pre-order first: The higher-end ST60 series won't hit our labs until next month. In a way, our pent-up excitement for the new tech expected this year became channeled into this first real taste of 2013. Our first impression? The S60 is going to be a tough act to follow.

The suggested retail price for the 60 inch S60 is set at a fantastic $1,299.99. Considering the amount of screen space and picture quality you get with this TV, the value is hard to beat.

  • We wanted to love the LG PN6500. It has a lot going for it: good looks, accurate colors, an incredibly wide viewing angle, and terrific motion performance. But a terrible contrast ratio ruins the entire package. What's worse, this is a plasma TV, which means it should have a rich, dark black level. The fact that it doesn't is troublesome.

LG's LED displays usually have poor black levels and incredibly bright white levels to make up for them. Would you ever buy a sports car that accelerated slower than a hybrid?

  • I mean if you just want a good 1080p HD picture for a darker room at home how can you beat $849? You cant. If you are not interested in 3D, Smart TV or any of the fanciest features that higher end TVs have to offer and just want a good sports or movie TV then the 60PN6500 could be the answer. You certainly get great savings from 1) going plasma and 2) foregoing all the extra features. There still plenty of HDMI inputs and connectivity options.

  • Superb picture quality and beautiful design place the Panasonic GT50 in the top tier of plasma TVs, but it's more expensive than others with similar performance.

  • The TC-P50GT50 has the Infinite Black Pro panel that is Panasonic's best for 2012, but without the Ultra filter on the VT50 series which is even better. This is a big step up from lower end plasmas from Panasonic due to the much better signal processing. Black levels are about 20% better than lesser models with the extra fine processing of the sub pixel controller which controls the sub pixels red, green, blue inside each individual pixel cell.

  • The entry-level Panasonic X5's color problems make it the worst choice among the year's cheap plasmas.
