  • Charging the right price for a very good picture, Panasonic's E60 LED LCD is one of the best values available among midrange TVs.

The TC-L50E60 fits nicely into the E60 series. This 50 inch 1080p TV is a good candidate for those not interested in 3D playback. It's got a native 120Hz panel, so sports and fast action aren't going to be a problem. The Viera Connect suite is present with built in wifi. This solves any problems when it come to getting content on your TV. This TV gives a lot of bang for the buck.

  • Not everyone can afford a company's top-of-the-line flagship model, so it's nice that Panasonic offers the E60 series, with its wide array of big displays. If you have giant TVs on the brain, but your billfold needs a break, the 50-inch E60 (MSRP $1149.99) can be found online for $1,000. Picture quality like this doesn't exactly make my heart skip a beat, but on a 50-inch display with ample streaming options and a tame going-rate, this is a solid value.

  • The midrange LG LA6200 LED LCD TV gets points for looks and smarts, but loses even more due to its picture quality.

  • This is one of the best features of the 55LA6200, value. At $1100 it's tough to beat in the 55" size for value. It competes with the Panasonic TC-P55ST60. Samsung's answer is the UN55F6400. The LA6200 is one of the best value buys in the market.

  • If you need a bigger panel without a price tag to match, the LA6200 series is a pretty decent bet. This isn't an exciting TV - the black levels are middling and the controls are downright spartan. But if you aren't a picture purist and fancy features like apps and 3D are important to you, you could do a lot worse.

My advice? Do yourself a favor and take a look at the Google-powered TVs from LG this year instead.

  • The 42 inch 42LN5700 is a great value piece if you want that great LED edge lit backlighting from LG and tons of features sans 3D at around $650. And since plasma TVs are not produced in the 42 inch size range anymore this is a standout in terms of quality and value for 2013/2014.

The LG 42LN5300 offers a stimulating price for those wanting to save money on that second or third TV or for those who want decent quality but dont want to pay up for lots of features. If you just want to watch TV on with a quality picture and not have many options this could be your set.

  • While you could argue that the LN5300's 42-inch display is a bit too big for its 60Hz britches, we still think it offers serious value for the money. The TV's sharp image and vivid color output provide an enjoyable viewing experience for a seriously low price. The poor audio performance, and affinity for jitter gave us pause, and those looking for a broader feature set would do well to consider the previously mentioned Vizio E420i Smart TV.

The 55 inch GA6400 is the second largest model in LG's mid-teir Google TV seires. It has the standard Smart TV feature set that is included in most of LG's TVs and Google TV as well. Those two things alone mean it is a feature packed television. Google TV means it will play a little nicer with the internet, as well has having a wider choice of apps. LG made sure the picture quality was not going to disappoint either.

  • The GA6400 series delivers an attractive picture, convincing passive 3D, enjoyable web-browsing, and streamlined access to content. Searching for movies through several providers is easier than ever, and LG's Magic Remote takes the headache out of web browsing on a TV. Effective voice vontrol, efficient gesture functions, a handy scroll wheel, and a full remote keypad combine for a tasty shmorgishborg of easy interfacing.
