  • The midlevel price and outstanding quality of the Panasonic TC-PST60 series make it our strongest TV recommendation ever.

  • The TC-P50ST60 is one of the best value TVs for this year. At $1100 it will be a great seller and the price may get a bit better before the year is over. It's got good 3D, great blacks, a simple but effective remote control, ample Smart TV features, and pretty good looks. Samsung PN51F5500 is one competitor, though I prefer the ST60. The Samsung UN50F6400 is an LED competitor.

  • All in all, I found the new look to strike a good balance, offering more options on the screen (so less navigation is required), but presenting everything a clean, logical way.

  • Although its lovely frame is packed with well-executed features, the flagship-priced LG LA8600 series LED LCD TV has the picture of a midrange model.

  • We really enjoyed the LA8600, even with its slight color temperature issue and yawn-worthy black levels. And while we easily say this is a terrific display, its huge asking price of $2,699.99 for a 55-inch model is a bit steep. Yes, you get a beautiful TV that will make your in-laws jealous, but you can also do that with Panasonic's DT60 and Samsung's F7100 for less. If supermodel-thin bezels are your thing, definitely consider the LA8600 if you find it on sale. Otherwise, do some comparison shopping.

  • The LG LA8600 series of HDTVs offers beautiful aesthetics, sharp 2D and 3D imagery, and rich color reproduction at a premium price. You get lots of features with this series, some of which are of questionable value.

  • The Panasonic VT60 has one of the best pictures of any TV we've ever reviewed, but it's soon to face some tough competition.

  • Here is where quality and price converge and man, these top end plasmas are up there this year in price. The TC-P65VT60 is around $3399 - no bargain basement TV and $1000 more than the 55 inch version. Yes, it has best in the market black levels that rival the best ever. In a dark home theater type environment the picture quality is astounding.

  • The LG 55LA7400 promises to be a pretty good seller for LG with the excellent Magic Remote, 3D, and faster 240Hz processing speed, and superior sound quality. Competition is from the Samsung UN55F7500 and UN55F7100, as well as many plasma TVs such as the Panasonic TC-P55VT60. Overall the TV has lots to offer though as of this writing may not be the best value on the market at around $2000.

  • Picture quality like this on a TV half the price would be one thing, but a price just shy of two grand is another story; the 47-inch LA7400 carries an MSRP of $1799.99. Definitely look for this on sale - we found it online for about $1200. Sure, much of what you're paying for is features - but that's exactly the point. If you're looking for top-dog picture quality, move on.

  • If you are after an LED set, the LA7400 performs well compared to other LEDs in its price range. The 55-incher reviewed here is $1,600 at Amazon, and the 60-inches comes in at $1,900. The pre-calibration image was OK, but the calibrated image was often beautiful, with great color saturation and a nice, natural look. The black level/contrast ratio is similar to other edge-lit LED LCD models (as in, only OK), but it offers some of the best 3D IĆ¢?? ve watched at home.

  • The Sony W900A is a fine high-end LED LCD television, with excellent color performance and deep black levels.

  • Sony still doesn't - get it - in terms of smart features, but proves it knows exactly what it's doing in regards to picture quality. Color accuracy, motion performance, contrast - they're all superb on the W900A. And don't get me started on design, which is becoming a staple of Sony's products.

So what's there to dislike? As mentioned before, this TV's viewing angle isn't terribly wide. Then there's the whole issue of price: With an MSRP of $3,299.99, the 55-inch W900A is not for those short on cash.

  • The LED edge-lit KDL-55W900A wears the crown in Sony's 2013 line of HDTVs and rightfully so with its color rich TRILUMINOS display and wealth of streaming content partners. At 55 inches, this Sony is a serious contender as the cornerstone of your home theater.

I wish it were a little less expensive, but its combination of features and Picture Quality earns it our HDTV Solutions Highly Recommended rating.
