Most video camcorders require a post processing step to save the recorded video on your computer. The post processing step is very compute intensive for high compression formats like AVCHD which requires at least a dual-core workstation to do the processing. Enter the MPEG movie mode - MPEG movie mode allows the camcorder to directly store the captured video into the shareable MPEG video format. MPEG being a more versatile format results in smaller video file sizes which can then readily be shared on youtube and even email. The downside to storing in MPEG format is that this is a lossy compression format and compromises your video resolution for achieving a smaller file size.
The best camcorders with mpeg movie mode are often the smaller pocket/consumer camcorders with SD card storage formats which offer versatility to take shoots in different situation and quickly share online.
