  • If your budget doesn't stretch to the BD-F7500 - or you simply don't need 4K upscaling, two HDMIs and analogue audio outputs - then the BD-F6500 is a fine alternative. Apart from the above features and a more basic design it's essentially the same player at a lower price. That means you get the same generous internet content, slick DLNA streaming, screen mirroring, 3D playback and wide format compatibility, not to mention the superb new operating system that makes navigation a breeze.

  • We often see Blu-ray players and question why the manufacturer has included or excluded certain features, bearing in mind the price and positioning in the market. Not so, here.
Jettisoning analogue outputs seems reasonable enough on what is a straightforward all-digital deck. By favouring and refining the smart TV side of things, Samsung seems to have its finger on the pulse and has delivered an excellent all round Blu-ray deck for today's rapidly evolving home entertainment market.

  • At first glance the £40 price difference between the BD-F6500 and the BD-F5500 feels like a lot to pay for built-in Wi-Fi and 7.1 surround sound (which hardly anyone will use). But this is a player fully equipped for the new age of content streaming. While the Catch-up TV, Netflix and LoveFilm apps will be rolling out to all Samsung's 2013 range of Blu-Ray players, only the F6500 (and the over-expensive F7500) will offer the flexibility of accessing content via built-in Wi-Fi.

  • The Sony BDP-S5100 Blu-ray player offers a wealth of services and very good image quality for the money.

  • The Sony BDP-S5100 is a slick, versatile 3D Blu-ray player with killer web content and sumptuous HD pictures.

  • It costs a bit more than the other Sony Blu-Ray players, but not enough to break the bank. If you're buying this is conjunction with a new TV you won't even notice the price difference. Since the BDP-S5100 includes 3D playback and built-in Wi-Fi, we'd recommend that you choose this one instead of one of the cheaper models. It's always a good policy to future-proof yourself as much as possible when buying tech.

  • What's left to say about the Oppo's new BDP-103 universal Blu-ray player, except that it is currently the universal disc spinner to have and the one to beat and the fact that it doesn't cost you an arm, leg and kidney is just icing on the cake. There isn't anything this mighty player can't really do outside of a few missing formats, mainly ISO, and true UltraHD compatibility. Beyond that, the BDP-103 is all the player you need and then some. It's even an AV preamp, if you wish to get technical.

  • For a hefty price, the Oppo BDP-103 offers top-notch performance along with every feature you could want in a Blu-ray player and then some.

  • I have had the opportunity to review OPPO products going back to their first upscaling DVD player (OPDV971H) and with every Upscaling DVD and Blu-ray Disc player I have seen from them, up to this point, they have consistently provided solid build quality and the latest audio and video innovations, while retaining excellent core audio and video performance.

  • Features are scarce, but the Sony BDP-S1100 is an otherwise impressive sub-£100 player - it's stylish, easy to use and delivers slick HD pictures.

  • The price of the Sony BDP-S1100 has fallen since launch to a rock bottom £50, and at that price it probably offers more for your money than any other player on the market. The designer looks of the device are an added bonus, and it stands out as a top choice among entry-level models.

  • The Sony BDP-S1100 is an excellent Blu-ray player with a very compact design. We liked its responsive, user-friendly menus, which are similar in style to the PlayStation 3 interface. Anyone looking for 3D support, however, will need to look to a higher-end model.

  • Weighing up its features, performance and price, we can only conclude that the BDP-S3100 represents superb value for money. It boasts a generous array of features, including built-in Wi-Fi, web content and DLNA streaming, all for a little over £100 - plus it's attractively styled, surprisingly well built and delivers dazzling 2D pictures.

  • The BDP-S3100 is a nice-looking Blu-Ray player, but beyond its distinctive design, there's no compelling reason to choose this over rivals from other manufacturers. The Triluminos compatibility could be relevant if you plan to buy a Sony TV in the future that supports Triluminos, but at present these are far too expensive for the average consumer to consider.

It's a step up from the entry-level BDP-S1100, adding Wi-Fi, DLNA and support for Sony's TV Side View smartphone app.
