  • The Garmin Approach S3 is the touch screen GPS golf timepiece that gives simple, instant and precise calculations of the course.

Rugged and waterproof, the Approach S3 golf watch is another benchmark for GPS within the golf market. Packed with 27,000 plus worldwide courses without subscriptions or fees, S3 displays yardages to the front, back and middle of greens. The S3 also introduces a high-resolution, glove-friendly touchscreen display, Green View with manual pin positioning, distances to doglegs and layups, customizable yardage points and printable digital scorecards for Stroke play and Stableford.

When the S1 gps watch came out I admit to being blown away by the ease of use, although it was limited in the information.

The Garmin Approach S3 takes things to an entirely different level. You can get most of the information you would have on a regular full-size gps right there on your wrist. No fumbling around your pocket or golf bag. The yardages you need are just a glance away.

  • The Garmin Approach G6 is a great device that any golfer would love on their bag It's easy to use and will help your game tenfold. The only problem is the price - £300 is an awful lot of money.

  • The Garmin Approach G6 comes in at a reasonable price point, and with no additional fees it remains very competitively priced. Its size, color screen, full hole graphics, and ability to determine distances to any point on the course make it a compelling value, and will undoubtedly make this a popular device.

The Garmin Approach G6 is like the best club in your bag for those who are serious about their golf and looking to shoot a low score.
Designed specifically for use on the golf course it has a sunlight-friendly screen, rugged construction, convenient size, a wide range of useful features and provides a great way to chronicle and analyse your game.
One of the few downsides of the products is the price. At $349 the device is up against smartphone apps which can be downloaded for free.

  • The Garmin Approach S1 is a high-end watch that sports a high-sensitivity GPS receiver meant specifically to aid the user in golf. It features a monochrome LCD screen that displays time and GPS information and is rated to the IPX7 waterproofing standard.

  • Garmin has long been the leader in GPS watches for runners and other athletes, and the company shows its knack for innovation and line expansion by introducing the Approach S1 golf GPS watch. Unlike the many-featured, color-screen golf GPS handhelds on the market (Garmin makes those too), the Approach S1 keeps things simple.

  • We particularly like the S1, as being a wristwatch, it's hands free so you can just glance at it and then focus on your golf swing. You don't have to carry an extra device around the course or consult something strapped to your bag or cart. You can't mark your score on it, but we don't think we'd use those kinds of the extra features found on more expensive devices.

    - During the course of play, the touchscreen interface helps you decide the best tactic in many situations.

  • - The menu and controls are intuitive and easy-to-use overall, and it's easy to advance to upcoming holes to preview them without losing data from the hole you're playing.
    - I've been pleased with the trend toward touchscreen controls in handheld GPS, and the G3 is as pure touchscreen as it gets, with just one button, for on-off.

While the Garmin Approach G3 GPS-Enabled Golf Handheld is far from perfect, it is an excellent device for the price and does not fail to exceed expectations. Some users may have difficulty viewing the display clearly in bright sunlight, but for the most part the transflective touch-screen is user-friendly and appropriate for golfing environments. Although the course database is not as expansive as competing devices, the G3 does not have membership fees, so the pros outweigh any cons. Overall, it is a great handheld GPS that should be considered by the serious golfer who wants to improve his/her time.
