If you already own one of Garmin's higher-end nuvi models purchased within the last 2 years, the 3590 LMT probably isn't compelling enough to warrant upgrading. If you don't already have a GPS, or are looking to upgrade an older/lower-end model, the 3590 LMT is a solid navigator packed with virtually every feature available on a Garmin GPS: 5-inch screen, traffic, free map updates, multi-touch gesture support, voice command, Bluetooth and much more.

  • It's getting tougher to make the case for high-end GPS devices, but the fully loaded Garmin 3590LMT easily succeeds. It's a worthy purchase if you have the cash.

  • The Garmin nuvi 3590 LMT is a high-quality, feature-rich sat-nav. As we've commented before with regard to the Garmin smartphone app and the nuLink 2320, the Live services do get a bit pricey. If you purchased all of them, you would be paying £62.24 a year, which is significantly more than TomTom currently charges for its LIVE services. However, the device does come with lifetime map updates and lifetime RDS-TMC traffic, so you can get traffic information without the enhanced 3D Traffic service.

Highly recommended. The only trouble I had testing the Essential series was that it wouldn't connect to the computer once. But after I used it in the car, I was able to bring it in and connect it with no problem. This is a basic navigator but it has all the features most people will need. An improved mounting system and faster processor mark the most significant updates since the nuvi 40.

  • Garmin's formula for entry-level GPS devices doesn't change much with the new Nuvi 50, but small tweaks, a lower price, and a massive screen enhance value.

This is without a doubt the best entry level navigator Garmin has ever released. It has an ultra-wide 5" screen along with features previously restricted to mid-range units. You can't hardly go wrong with this one.

  • With the nuvi 50, Garmin has met the budget competition from the likes of Mio's Spirit 685 full-on. There's nothing exceptional about it, apart from the price. But Garmin has managed to deliver its core navigational features alongside a 5in screen for a cost that's equal to or less than the competition. If you're after basic UK navigation in a dependable big-screen format, the Garmin nuvi 50 is great value.

  • The Astro 320 handheld GPS has a removeable microSD card slot that allows you to add additional maps including detailed maps such as TOPO, Inland Lakes, BlueChart and City Navigator. You can also add Garmin BirdsEye Satellite imagery with subscription.

  • The TomTom VIA 1605TM is a top-notch budget GPS device, thanks to its sharp 6-inch screen, solid feature set, and fair price.
