DTS (earlier Digital Theatre Systems) Inc. is an American company that has been developing multichannel audio technology for several years. Many of our Home theatre systems incorporate one or the other of DTS's audio surround sound technologies to boost sound quality and provide that resonant cinematic surround sound.
DTS began with a 5.1 channel system in which they encoded audio as 5 separate, full range channels and added to this a Low Frequency Effects channel. Later, they came out with various variants to this version, of which DTS ES is one.
DTS ES has two variants: DTS ES matrix and DTS ES discrete 6.1. In the Matrix version multichannel audio content is stored with all the channels blended together. This has a 5.1 channel in which the center surround sound is matrixed. In the DTS ES discrete 6.1 system, the channels are isolated from one another and stored. Discrete DTS systems also have a discrete center surround sound to make it a 6.1 channel. However, in a 7.1 system the two center-rear speakers are only capable of playing mono sound.
Our list of the best home theatres with surround sound DTS ES is a bunch of the top rated HT sets released over the last year. This list comprises HT systems from leading manufacturers like Denon and Sony and offer several added benefits like Blu-Ray players and 3D HDMI support, all depending on your budget.
