The Canon EOS 550D takes very clear and vibrant photos. The video mode of the Canon EOS 550D is very good - even for capturing some action - and it records in Full HD. It has a wide 3:2 aspect ratio and it's very crisp (it has more than 1 million pixels); you can use it effectively to focus while in Live View mode. *

Verdict: The EOS 550D is an excellent way into the Canon system. High ISO image quality is very good. We shot in an almost dark room at ISO 6400 without any high hopes and found the image perfectly acceptable. *

I think this is just right: I don't think they could have included another important feature without making the Canon 7D look absurd. Our initial impressions are quite good. Very impressive. The Manual and 2,600 Kelvin white balance options were very similar, both producing fairly neutral images. The Canon 7D's hue accuracy is quite good, just a hair less accurate than the 50D. The camera being able to register data for up to 9 lens types. It's really amazing that AF tracking works as well as it does. *

This is undoubtedly Nikon's best digital camera yet, though for most of the functionality you can easily get away with the D700 for a lot less, and still have around 95 per cent of the tools and features. But as usual, it's that extra je ne sais quoi that makes this camera so special.

The A900's expanded dynamic range options are extensive; they mainly added shadow detail to my images, and didn't really affect the highlights. My pictures in the field shot at ISOs below 800 looked great and sharp, and had minimal noise. The A900's viewfinder was wonderful to shoot with; I found that it provided a 100 percent field of view.
