  • As long as you're a patient snapshooter, the Kodak EasyShare Z950 is a respectable compact megazoom camera.

  • Rating Unavailable

    - The Z950 is equipped with optical image stabilization, which compensates for minor hand movements.
    - After a day of shooting over 150 pictures and several videos I still had plenty of battery power left.
    - I was able to use optical zoom while taking videos, which many cameras do not permit, though using the zoom made the camera lose focus for awhile.
    - Video and audio quality seemed good.

  • - The Z950's bricky, all-black design won't win any awards, but you could consider it a bit retro ; it reminded me of my first 35mm camera from childhood.
    - Unfortunately, the footage I captured was too jumpy and shaky.
    - The only major disappointment was its mediocre video quality.
    - The photos had pleasing color and captured plenty of detail.

  • - Photos can look overprocessed and noisy viewed at 100 percent; small LCD..
    - One thing worth noting, though, is the AF performance that was noticeably slow.
    - Shutter lag in bright lighting conditions is excellent for its class at 0.4 second and only goes up to 0.6 in dim conditions.
    - It's uncomplicated to use and has faster performance than much of the competition.

    - Kodak's insistence on advertising the Z915 as an HD model is slightly hokey, and potentially more than a bit confusing for newbies as well - call it what you will, you'll still only get 640x480/30fps video out of this camera.

  • - We were able to turn the camera on and snap a shot in about a second.
    - The shutter response is insanely (and admirably) fast.
    - Shutter speeds are much more extensive, ranging from 0.001 second to 16 seconds in shutter priority mode.

    - The images manage to stay fairly sharp towards the edges.
    - There is also a digital zoom feature offering an additional 4x zoom.
    - Kodak supplies all the necessary cables and software to connect the Easyshare V610 to a PictBridge compatible printer, television set and computer.
    - To help take the best possible photos a number of scene modes are available.

    - The Bluetooth is easy to operate.
    - Fitting Bluetooth and a 10x zoom (albeit a jumpy one) in such a tiny and chic frame is incredibly impressive.

    - The only "gotcha" is that there's a sudden jump in focal length when you switch lenses, which looks awkward.
    - Do note that the image transfers are handled by your computer's operating system and not the EasyShare software -- at least on the Mac.
    - Things are more dramatic at ISO 400, where this smudging gets worse, and things start to get soft.
