The best notebook for coding for 2016 is definitively a Macbook with powerful innards.

Building web or phone applications doesnâ??t require too much hardware power, so a notebook is as adequate as a desktop; if you intend to work on demanding IDE applications such Aptana, Visual Studio or the likes, a quad core processor is essential.

A MacBook is ideal for .NET developers, as well as iOS developers, who generally require a system capable of running both on Mac OS as well as Windows, since MacBooks deploy Windows quite efficiently; and Windows laptops arenâ??t capable of running on Mac OS.

Some of the best notebooks for coding are powerful enough to run even database servers and virtual machines and come with clear displays that do not hurt the eyes.

The latest Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch with Retina display is still an excellent laptop with a high-resolution screen and enough power for content-creation tasks.

The Alienware 15 delivers great performance and long battery life, and that's enough for it earn our Editors' Choice nod for entry-level gaming laptops.

With its slim, lightweight chassis, however, the X1 Carbon Touch is a great choice if you travel for work.

Above the screen is a 1MP webcam, and while Asus calls it HD, the photos it took of me were splotchy at best, with little detail and poor color balance.

The MSI GT80 Titan SLI is impressive in a lot of ways.
