  • The Olympus Stylus SH-2 is a stylish compact camera with a 24x zoom. It's a solid performer when shooting Raw, but its JPG output is disappointing.

  • Back in 2014 when we reviewed the Olympus Stylus SH-1, we really wanted to like that camera. After all, it was a beautifully crafted product with a great feature set, responsive operation and a versatile lens. However, we were somewhat let down by its image quality, specifically its sub-par JPEG engine and lack of raw image capture.
Thankfully, Olympus addressed both of these issues in the new SH-2 model.

The Olympus Stylus SH-2 is a powerful compact digicam that offers tremendous versatility with its 24x optical zoom lens and 5-axis image stabilization. Easy and creative shooting modes get the most out of the 16-Megapixel CMOS imaging sensor, letting you just snap away.

  • The Olympus Tough TG-3 is a worthy successor to the TG-2. Despite some image noise, it's still the best rugged camera we've tested.

  • As long as you have some patience, then using the Olympus Tough TG-3 is a delight. We took it to many events from gigs to days out at the beach and it coped with all of them. The patience comes with the frustrations we discovered. For example, putting a memory card in will frequently knock the protective catch down the card making it write protected. You have to take it out to slide it back up again. That's not too much of an issue until you've done it a couple of times a week.

  • Pricey, but if you need a camera that's built and equipped for life well off the beaten track, the Olympus TG-3 is worth the money.

  • The Olympus Tough TG-850 is a tough camera with a wide-angle lens that is a fine choice for photographers on a budget.

  • Arguably, the biggest surprise of the TG-850 is how good the image quality is. That's by no means a derisory comment towards Olympus, but more towards Tough style cameras as a concept. Typically – and based on other reviews of similar style cameras from all manufacturers – image quality is low down on the list of priorities, but here Olympus seem to be getting it right in most places.

The Olympus Stylus TG-850 is a compact and versatile "Tough" digicam. It has been built to go anywhere that you can go. It is easy to use and performs very well, but it lacks in image quality.

  • The Wi-Fi-enabled 24x Olympus Stylus SH-1 is stylish, but it doesn't quite match the best superzooms in image quality or range, and it's on the pricey side.

  • The Olympus SH-1 is arguably one of the most attractive travelzoom cameras we have ever come across. Its retro-styled aluminium-alloy body is reminiscent of the manufacturer's PEN line of film cameras and CSCs. In hand, it feels great courtesy of a small but well-sculpted, textured grip, which provides a surprisingly secure hold and a good resting place for your fingers.
In use, the camera proved to be quite responsive, with quick start-up, focus acquisition and shot-to-shot times.

  • While the SH-1's new look might give the illusion of a premium camera, it's actually just a glorified compact, offering no real improvement in picture quality over its predecessor. Its very-responsive processor, the TruePic VII, unfortunately hasn't done anything to improve the set-up either. The addition of built-in Wi-Fi is a real plus, but it's not enough to set this camera apart from the competition, which includes compact cameras with bigger and better zooms.

  • So despite a few reservations about the image quality in low or high contrast light, the Olympus XZ-10 is a competitive addition to the ever-growing numbers of "premium" compact cameras aimed at the more discerning photographer. You could certainly do a lot worse than carry an Olympus XZ-10 in your pocket.

  • The premium compact camera market is one that is packed with some serious competition, but the Olympus XZ-10 more than holds its own against most of the competition.

Images are great, and for the most part handling is also a good experience, while bonuses such as the touchscreen and art filters make it more appealing than some of its rivals - such as the Nikon P330.

That said, Canon has managed to include Wi-Fi in the S110, while Sony has opted for a larger sensor in its RX100.

  • The Olympus XZ-10 is a solid all-round performer that features excellent AF performance, an impressive touchscreen and good design. But itâ??s let down by its small sensor and a few reliability issues.
