  • The new rangefinder-styled Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 compact system camera gets a lot of things absolutely right, offering intuitive handling, lots of customisation options, solid weather-proofed build quality, and an excellent OLED viewfinder and rear screen, but some of the headline-grabbing features don't live up their full potential, while both the camera and its price have become somewhat inflated.

  • - It’s a Micro Four Thirds camera that doesn't offer the small-size benefits that are often associated with this style of sensor.
    - AF performance is great too.
    - Image quality is great too.
    - The Panasonic Lumix GX8 produces the best RAW image quality we’ve seen from a Micro Four Thirds camera.
    - Burst performance is superb, and offers several options.

  • What many will want to know is whether the Lumix GX8 is worth its four-figure asking price. Its on-board viewfinder is a competition killer so, with that in mind, the answer is a resounding yes. However, its arrival later down the line than the larger-body Fujifilm X-T1 and its cheaper X-T10 cousin may deter some buyers. The Lumix does have the better autofocus system though, both in terms of speed and number of useful options available.

  • Designed to appeal to both photographers and videographers, the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 is a veritable tour-de-force, offering excellent stills and outstanding video quality in a small, compact package at a very attractive price.

  • The Lumix DMC-GH4 is a great overall unit that we enjoyed using, primarily because of its build quality and performance. It’s a top model to consider if you’re looking for a new high-end shooter with advanced hybrid (stills and video) abilities.

  • With on-board GPS, wi-fi and NFC connectiivity, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5 is one of the most well-appointed rugged cameras currently available, making it easy to record where your photos were taken and share them with friends and family. While the image quality from the 16 megapixel sensor isn't bad, there are much better cameras available at this price-point, albeit without the tough credentials, so you really need to make sure that you'll use the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5 to the full to warrant the extra outlay.

  • The Lumix DMC-TS5 is a good choice for those seeking a rugged camera with a robust feature set that includes a well-implemented GPS, plus Wi-Fi. The camera takes good quality photos for its class, has a great LCD, and offers a top-notch movie mode. However, its lens is on the slow side, and the flash is very weak. The Wi-Fi system could also be a lot more user-friendly.

  • The FT5 is a steady improvement on the FT4, we said that an improved screen would be a significant improvement and Panasonic have introduced a 3 inch screen on the new model. You can go deeper underwater to 13m, the GPS appears to activate quicker and the new model also has built-in Wi-Fi. Other than that, much has remained the same, with good image quality in an extremely tough body.

  • While it doesn't offer much for upgraders, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS4 is still a very good rugged camera.

  • The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT4 is a creme egg of a camera; unless there's plenty of light around to make the best of the fact that this is basically a snapshot camera in wolf's clothing, image quality is soft in comparison to the rock hard exterior.

Still, there is the potential to have a lot of fun with it and go where lesser snappers fear to tread.

  • Rarely has an upgrade seemed as if merely the model number has changed while everything else has stayed the same, so owners of the FT3 needn't feel a need to rush for this upgrade. But where does it sit in the current market? Well, recent rivals to Panasonic's FT4 include the Nikon's AW100 and Coolpix S30, plus the Olympus TG-320, Canon D20, and Fujifilm XP50, to name a mere handful.
