  • The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553dn is fast, low-priced, and has output quality good enough to let you print your own marketing materials.

  • This is a big printer for companies with big ideas. It's fast, flexible and delivers stunning prints.

  • Once past its slow startup, the Color LaserJet Enterprise M553x offers top-tier print quality at particularly high speeds. Just don't place your desk in the immediate vicinity, as the fan is just as effective at making noise as it is at cooling the machine.

  • A good fit as a personal multifunction printer or for light-duty, shared use in a small office, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw delivers high-quality text and graphics, fast speed, and mobile printing support.

  • If you're looking for a high-quality photo printer then inkjet printers still have the edge there. However, the M277dw provides excellent text quality and business graphics, and will make a good workhorse printer for smaller offices that need to produce high quality business documents.

  • This small and efficient laser all-in-one prints well and quickly, but the cost per page and limited paper handling render this an occasional-use model.

  • Aimed at personal use or shared use in a micro office, the Samsung Multifunction Xpress M2885FW delivers better overall output quality than most monochrome laser multifunction printers.

  • This inexpensive mono-laser all-in-one has unusually fast print speeds, plus a host of convenience features. Our only quibble is with the toner cost.

  • The Samsung Xpress M2885FW is a good printer that's fast, compact and low in toner cost, plus, it uses NFC to print documents wirelessly from smartphones and tablets. That said, we would have preferred a larger display to make the numerous functions easier to navigate through.

  • Meant primarily for home use, the HP Envy 5640 e-All-in-One inkjet multifunction printer can scan, copy, print through the cloud, and print directly from phones and tablets.

  • The 5640 looks brilliant, and has some very nice features. Its performance, though, doesn't quite match up to the exterior. Compared to the cheaper Canons, its output isn't quite as glorious, and its running costs marginally higher. It's a beautifully turned-out device, but it falls short of inspiring true envy.

  • Replacing the excellent was never going to be an easy task, but the HP Envy 5640 hasn't done a bad job at all. It's even managed to address some of its predecessor's faults. Offering all-round performance and an overall better print quality, the new HP Envy has straight away become our favourite printer.

  • The HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One inkjet multifunction printer can print, scan, copy, fax, print through the cloud, and print directly from phones and tablets.

  • The HP OfficeJet 5740 is a fine all-in-one for the home office, with excellent support for mobile devices and good, if sometimes sluggish, printing. It could do with a bigger paper tray, but if you buy into Instant Ink, it can be very economical.

  • The HP Officejet 5740 will appeal to many. Well designed and intuitive, it would be an ideal printer for very small businesses. The only real downside is the quality of photo prints.
