  • The Epson WorkForce ET-4550 EcoTank All-in-One Printer costs a lot for a personal multifunction printer (MFP), but it comes with all the ink most users will ever need.

  • Based on Epson's new EcoTank ink system, this otherwise low-volume inkjet delivers the lowest CPPs we've seen from any consumer-grade or small-business printer.

  • . To be honest, as these EcoTank printers go, I’m much more impressed with larger one, the WorkForce Pro model, even though I don’t print nearly enough to justify it. If you print 300 or 400 pages each month regularly, and you have the funds, this is a much cheaper way to go over cartridges. For a more detailed review of the ET-4550, click here.

  • A good fit as a personal multifunction printer or for light-duty, shared use in a small office, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw delivers high-quality text and graphics, fast speed, and mobile printing support.

  • If you're looking for a high-quality photo printer then inkjet printers still have the edge there. However, the M277dw provides excellent text quality and business graphics, and will make a good workhorse printer for smaller offices that need to produce high quality business documents.

  • This small and efficient laser all-in-one prints well and quickly, but the cost per page and limited paper handling render this an occasional-use model.

  • Aimed at personal use or shared use in a micro office, the Samsung Multifunction Xpress M2885FW delivers better overall output quality than most monochrome laser multifunction printers.

  • This inexpensive mono-laser all-in-one has unusually fast print speeds, plus a host of convenience features. Our only quibble is with the toner cost.

  • The Samsung Xpress M2885FW is a good printer that's fast, compact and low in toner cost, plus, it uses NFC to print documents wirelessly from smartphones and tablets. That said, we would have preferred a larger display to make the numerous functions easier to navigate through.

  • The LED-based OKI B512dn, which falls in the same category as monochrome laser printers, delivers a low running cost plus paper handling suitable for moderate use in a midsize office.

  • A very low cost per page and excellent monochrome output set this LED printer above most high-volume models for heavy document printing.

  • Frankly, if you have to buy a laser, it doesn’t get much better than this. As I’ve said over and over about high-volume printers, it’s not the cost of the machine that matters, it’s the operating costs, and the B512dn has one of best CPPs I’ve seen in a laser-class machine in this price range. Good job, OKI.

  • The HP Officejet Pro X551dw Printer beats the competition in its price range on speed, output quality, paper handling, and cost per page.

  • The HP makes some proud claims, and it more than satisfies the majority of them. Very cheap to run, and with a string of strong features and good paper handling, it works exceedingly well. Speed is searing too, outpacing many a laser printer. The text quality isn't quite as dark as we'd like it in order to place it on a par with good laser models. We don't like the tacky installation routine, which (provided you pick the default option) loads your machine with uninvited visitors like the Bing Toolbar.

  • The HP Officejet Pro X551dw really is a new concept in office printers and this machine is an excellent first offering. It's very fast, very cheap to run and produces high quality black and colour print on both plain and photo paper. It's reasonably expensive to buy, but not when compared with colour laser printers with anything like the same specifications.
