The Casio XJ-H1750 is a little different from most projectors, with most of the differences in its favor. The hybrid light source, with its mercury-free design and 20,000 hour lifetime, offers ecological benefits and lowers cost of ownership. It also helps that Casio backs up the light source with the extraordinarily long, 5-year or 10,000 hour warranty, the best in the business.

Adding to potential ecological and economic benefits are the seven different levels of brightness without having to change color mode.

  • Built around a DLP chip and hybrid solid state light source, with LEDs and a laser, the Casio XJ-H1750 Pro Series business projector boasts a 4,000-lumen brightness rating and low running costs.

Epson's Home Cinema 5010 is a 3D projector done right. From the comments we've been getting, it seems like a lot of people have been waiting for a 3D version of the Home Cinema 8700 UB -- that is, a strong home theater projector with great contrast and solid color performance, with the brightness to light up a very large screen and 3D performance that's competitive with the best of this year's crop. The Home Cinema 5010 is that projector.

  • I really enjoyed my time with the Espon PowerLight Home Cinema 5010e. Set up and use was fairly easy. The rear panel connections are clearly labeled and spaced, the side-mounted controls easily accessible, and I found the backlit remote control was easy to use. The onscreen menu system was understandable and easy to navigate. Also, in addition to Zoom and Focus, I found the inclusion of both Horizontal and Vertical Lens Shift controls greatly assisted in getting the optimum projector-to-screen positioning. The 5010e is also exceptionally bright.

  • The Casio XJ-H2650 delivers a bright, high-quality data image along with a low running cost and the ecological benefits that go with Casio's solid state light source.

You may have reasons for scratching the W6000 from your shopping list, but certainly it's a projector that should be considered. It's got very good blacks, though not the "best in class", but it's sharper than most of the competition, and in "best" modes, far brighter than any serious competition. Overall picture quality is classic DLP with rich deep colors (good depth), and very good skin tones.

The BenQ W6000, at factory default settings, is a bit of an ugly duckling. Contrast and brightness are out of alignment, as are color balance and saturation. Sharpness is too high. However, with a little perseverance and some remote-control kung-fu, it emerges looking like a swan. With a very bright cinema mode and great contrast, the W6000 is a solid choice for large-screen home theater in a dark room or Sunday afternoon football in the living room.

    - The image is very bright and the images displayed are superbly intense and vibrant.
    - The extra high contrast ratio also contributes to the impressive display.

    - Optics seem particularly good, and convergence is also very good, but not exceptional on this unit.
    - The LG is typically sharp for 3 chip projector.
    - Shadow detail is just fine.
    - Shadow detail of the LG is very good.

    - When switching to standard definition DVDs, the CF181D's limitations in black level become more apparent.
    - However, its one weakness is maximum black level.
    - Dark scenes that look somewhat muddy on the CF181D are better defined with more solid blacks and greater shadow detail.
    - The remote itself has great backlighting, with buttons well spaced and easy to read in the dark.
