The Epson Home Cinema 5020 is likely to be the best choice for pretty large chunk of the folks that can afford it.

  • The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5020UBe is the newest addition to the Epson home theater line, and it continues their tradition of fully-featured, high-value home theater projectors. Its bright picture combines deep contrast and vibrant color to create a picture that pops off of the screen, while its 3D performance has received a significant boost thanks to new RF-sync glasses.

make the Epson 5020 series easy to like.

  • The Epson 5020UB projector offers excellent picture quality for the money, and is versatile enough for both dark and moderately lit rooms.

  • Well, whaddya know: with the X30 JVC has yet again set the bar for projection quality in the £3,000 projector class. It might almost be boring if the projector wasn't so darn brilliant.

  • While the X30's 3D performance could be better, JVC has undoubtedly raised its own performance bar in the 2D arena - which is what saves the X30's five-star rating.

If you don't need or want to bother with 3D content, the JVC's 2D performance could make it your first choice.

  • It may have taken Epson longer to deliver a 3D projector than expected, but based on the TW9000W, the wait has been more than worthwhile. It isn't without its flaws and needs a little calibration work to get the very best out of it, but overall it's a stellar effort with both 3D and 2D.

  • The Epson EH-TW9000W is a classy bit of gear with generally good performance and the startling new feature of WirelessHD, yet at a price at the lower end of what's available. This ought to be a good seller.

Epson's Home Cinema 5010 is a 3D projector done right. From the comments we've been getting, it seems like a lot of people have been waiting for a 3D version of the Home Cinema 8700 UB -- that is, a strong home theater projector with great contrast and solid color performance, with the brightness to light up a very large screen and 3D performance that's competitive with the best of this year's crop. The Home Cinema 5010 is that projector.

  • I really enjoyed my time with the Espon PowerLight Home Cinema 5010e. Set up and use was fairly easy. The rear panel connections are clearly labeled and spaced, the side-mounted controls easily accessible, and I found the backlit remote control was easy to use. The onscreen menu system was understandable and easy to navigate. Also, in addition to Zoom and Focus, I found the inclusion of both Horizontal and Vertical Lens Shift controls greatly assisted in getting the optimum projector-to-screen positioning. The 5010e is also exceptionally bright.

This is a projector that works best in a home theater environment, but can double in a light controlled family room as well. It's definitely more value than last year's VPL-VWPro1, and can easily take on the likes of the Sharp XV-Z17000, and Optoma HD8300. It's early in this home theater season, so there are more new competitors yet to review, still, the Sony VPL-HW30ES is definitely a projector worth considering. Tastefully done.

The VPL-HW30ES is a major milestone for Sony. Not only have they improved upon one of their best projectors in recent memory, they have done so without significantly raising the price. The end result is one of the least expensive 3D 1080p projectors currently on the market.

  • The Sony VPL-HW30ES is an impressively capable 1080p projector for both 2D and 3D, but finding the best settings for it can take some time and effort.
