  • The X9 is a stunning tour de force from JVC that delivers the closest match yet - for under 10 grand, anyway - to the experience of actually going out to the cinema. Enough said.

  • With other brands coming on so far with their projectors this year, we had genuine doubts whether JVC would be able to retain the edge that's served it so well for the past four or five projector generations. But thanks to its new e-Shift technology, the X70 once again delivers a class-leading 2D performance that's yet another step nearer to the experience of going to a real-life cinema.

  • Although overall this projector's 3D is quite adequate, if you are dead keen on the highest 3D performance, then you're going to have to look elsewhere (read: DLP).

But if you are primarily interested in the highest quality 2D front-projector performance, then take a very close look at the JVC DLA-X70.

With the VPL-VW95ES, Sony has another winner on their hands. This premium projector emphasizes picture quality first and foremost, and every other aspect of the projector is constructed to complement the picture on the screen. While features like powered adjustments, Picture Position, and Motion Enhancer are helpful, they are not the reason why someone would buy this projector.

  • The VW95ES is a huge leap forward over the disappointing VW90, to the point where its 2D performance is so stunning that it does enough in itself to justify the hefty £5,000 price tag. Crucially, though, the VW95ES is also a very enjoyable and accomplished 3D performer - even if Sony still has a little way to go before it fully silences its crosstalk critics.

The Sony VPL-VW95ES is a wonderfully exciting hunk of hardware. Home-cinema fans will probably love what it does with 2D even more than 3D, but, either way, it's a no-compromise big-screen treat.

  • JVCâ??s D-ILA technology has done it again. As with almost every D-ILA Wire Grid projector before it, the HD550 sets new standards for its money. Thereâ??s still room for improvement, with JVC stubbornly refusing to give its entry-level models a couple of key features (a PC input and a colour management system) that would make them pretty much perfect for their money. But even so, if thereâ??s a better way to spend £3k right now, weâ??re struggling to think of it!.

  • Launch price. Another star from JVC, the ’550 turns in a frighteningly accomplished performance. The bar has been raised once again.

    - Whisper quiet in Normal lamp mode.
    - Easy to set up and install, with 2.1 throw ratio and significant horizontal and vertical lens offsets.
    - Deceptively bright. 6 way Power lens.
    - Nicely finished in dark shades with a subtle metallic flake.
    - Attractive, well laid out backlit remote.
    - Vivid, stunning picture, with outstanding black levels and contrast detail.

    - Even the remote control is particularly excellent.

  • As well as succeeding where its predecessor did not in justifying its price hike over Sony's latest entry-level SXRD model, the VW85 sets a really high new standard for the £5,000 sector of the projector market. Will JVC's new D-ILA models manage to be even better? Well, sadly I just don't know right now. But man, it's going to be fun finding out.

  • The Sony VPL-VW85 is set to become one of the finest home cinema projectors currently available.
