All washing machines produce noise during the washing / rinsing / spinning action. This is due to the mechanical parts which move or rub against each other during machine operation. Typically top loading are noisier than front loading machines as the washing drum tends to bang against the side panel during its operation.
Search for the following features when opting for a quiet washing unit:
AntiVibration Design: Spiral design is incorporated to the side panel of the washing machine making them sturdy thus reducing vibrations while operating. Also check for extra insulation and shock absorbers.
Direct Drive Technology: In a typical washer, the motor is used to power the belt & pulley mechanism which in turn operates the gears required to rotate or spin the drum. Thus increasing the noise and vibration, wear and tear of the parts.
In Direct Drive technology the drum is held in position with respect to the motor by the repelling action of magnets. Since both the parts do not touch each other it ensures a quiet operation of the machine.
In addition to the features above, many of Samsung washers use proprietary technology to reduce noise and vibration during the wash cycles. For example:
Vibration Reduction Technology: Here load is balanced in the rotating drum using a combination of ball bearings and sensors even at maximum spin cycle. So vibration and noise are almost removed as the moving parts are not subjected to wear and tear thus increasing the lifespan of these machines.
Digital Inverter Motor system: This motor which runs the drum uses fewer mechanical parts, hence there is a significant reduction in noise and vibration. It also has a longer lifespan due to less wear and tear of parts. This type of motor consumes less energy than conventional washing machines.
Quiet washing machines consume less energy and water but take more time to complete the wash cycles. This is due to extra spin or rinse cycles used to completely wash your clothes in return for less noise and vibration during washing.
Since these are special features, the price of quiet washing machines is comparatively higher than regular machines.
