  • The Samsung F5500 plasma offers great features and very good picture quality, but its performance suffers significantly under the lights.

  • Rating Unavailable

The PN51F5500 is the smallest size in the mid tier plasma series from Samsung. Picture quality is strong here but it lacks a bit when compared to the top tier F8500 plasma. This is to be expected, but the feature set is still quite good. The F5500 uses Active 3D to create 3D images, Samsung's new Smart Hub is offered with all the apps and online content you would ever need. It loses the built in front-facing camera, but voice interaction is present a lot more useful than we initially thought it would be.

  • Within the TV industry, reviewers and hobbyists alike agree on one thing: Plasma TVs produce a better picture than LCDs. And, hand over heart, it's true. However, LCDs like the Samsung F6300 redeem the fickle technology's mass popularity: This TV's picture looks very good, hands down, and its software works with fluid precision.

If you're in the market for a mid-sized TV, and want the bright light levels of LCD over the ink-black shadows produced by plasmas, the 46-inch F6300 is a great option.

The UN55F6300 is strong in value in 2013 in the 60 inch market. By eliminating 3D and micro dimming and sticking with some of the features that matter most, this is a tough model to beat in the mid-level LED TV category.

  • The Samsung UN50F5500 has a lot to offer even though much has been done away with to get the price down. For the price, the picture quality is strong and the Smart Hub adds more than enough functionality to make this a great choice. Competing models include the 50LN5700 from LG, The Panasonic TC-L50E60, and the Toshiba 50L4300U. The F5500 wins out on price against all three.

  • The UN65F8000 (65F8000BF) replaces the UN65ES8000 from 2012 as the top unit in the LED backlit LCD TV lineup for 2013 through early 2014. It includes built in Wifi, built in Web Browser, and Smart TV functions from last year with the addition of a much improved voice interaction and navigation feature for this year. All this is assisted by the new quad-core processor which is a welcome addition to help speed multitasking, browsing, and Smart TV function. 2D to 3D conversion is better than previous, and you also get active 3D viewing.
