Toshiba is a Japanese multinational, dealing with the manufacture of consumer electronic products and launch some of the best DVD players in the market today.

Budding at just $40, Toshiba DVD players go all out to bring in state of the art conveniences like MP3 players and JPEG viewing abilities, but even so, we urge you to go in for a great Blu-Ray player instead because DVD players (even the best of them) have come to the end of their days.

With world cinema switching over to full HD 720p, 1080i or 1080p, DVD players just don't have it in them to give you the best of your movie since the max resolution of a DVD player is 720x480i/p. Toshiba DVD players come with an upconversion feature that scales up this standard definition content into high definition 1080p resolution. Awesome as it sounds, the video quality of upconverted content can never compare to the actual picture quality of true HD source material, and DVD players aren't equipped to play true HD. You'd also be missing out on the thrill of watching 3D at home. If this is reason enough for you to keep with the times and enjoy your movies in HD, do visit our best Blu-Ray players selection. They're available for less than a $100! If not, read on.

Toshiba's DVD players offer to record your favorite TV shows, so you can watch them at a convenient time and are also compatible to several disc formats like DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. Toshiba even caters to the antiquated tastes of some, and have a brilliant DVD/ VHS combo player which can even convert or copy your whole videotape collection onto DVD.

For the travelling cinephile Toshiba proposes a portable DVD player fitted with around 9 inches of screen display on a folding panel. These players are qualified to play MP3s and JPEG files too, so it's an all-in-one pack with around 5 hours of playback time.

Our list of the best Toshiba DVD players has been narrowed down to only the top rated models released recently. The ranking on these however, may be low if they were released over a year ago.

  • If your Blu-ray player budget has a £100 ceiling then the Toshiba BDX5300 is definitely worth sticking on the shortlist. There arenâ?? t many decks at this price that offer built-in Wi-Fi let alone access to BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Picasa and Acetrax, making it terrific value for money.

There are compromises to be made though â?? the basic operating system feels like itâ?? s from another era, build quality isnâ?? t the best, the remote is horrible and several formats are missing from the compatibility list.

  • Although the Toshiba BDX5300 puts in a fine effort in terms of core features, the presence of the BBC iPlayer/Netflix, Wi-Fi and 3D Blu-ray support, there are more polished, easier to use and smarter 3D decks around. But those on a tight budget should look no further for a 3D quick fix.
With Wi-Fi-powered smart TV services and universal disc playback that includes 3D Blu-ray discs, Toshiba has produced perhaps the lowest priced such Blu-ray player.

  • The Toshiba BDX5300 offers a lot of features in a Wi-Fi-capable, 3D-supporting Blu-ray player, but its design choices and finicky interface hurt it.

  • The BDX3300's build quality, onscreen presentation and operation leave a lot to be desired, yet it's hard not to like a player that gives you valuable online content, built-in Wi-Fi, good format support and DLNA media streaming for just under £80.

  • It may lack finesse and at times appears a tad archaic, but we can't find it within us to criticise anything on a super-slim Blu-ray player that combines the best of the smart TV landscape with a price that hovers under £80/£120.
For a simple 2D Blu-ray upgrade with some YouTube goodness, we can't recommend the Toshiba BDX3300 highly enough.

  • On paper the BDX1200 may look like an unappetising prospect a Blu-ray player with no networking capabilities, no 3D support, no Wi-Fi, no cloud internet content and a generally basic spec. But if you accept that you're never going to get those features at this sort of price, then the BDX1200 starts to look like a decent little deck that still has a place despite its basic nature.

  • Spinning regular Blu-ray discs is not the novelty act it was, and without a notable online dimension, cloud-based content or networking, Toshiba's BDX1200 is left looking like a spec'ed-up DVD player. Picture quality from Blu-ray is fine, but DVDs lacks sharpness and its back-to-basics USB slot lacks crucial file support in this uninspiring package. Put simply, there are better decks out there for the same spend.

"A thoroughly decent Blu-ray player for those on a budget," Pocket-lint summed up. "The BDX1200 is a decent choice, thanks to its terrific pictures, user-friendly operating system and digital media support via USB," agreed Trusted Reviews. If you're after the maximum picture quality and minimum spend, the Toshiba BDX1200 can't be beat.
