  • Samsung's best-performing TV ever, the PNF8500 series pushes the plasma picture quality envelope, especially in bright rooms.

  • While we can't claim that the F8500 is the new reference TV in picture quality, it looks to be one of the best 1080p televisions ever. Each screen size in this series is fairly expensive, and they should be: There is only quality here. The F8500 has royally surpassed one of the biggest drawbacks of plasma tech-their dimness when compared to LCDs-giving those with the funds to pursue it every reason to do so.

  • The Samsung PNF8500 series is a top-shelf plasma HDTV line that delivers outstanding color quality, solid 2D and 3D imagery, and very dark blacks. You'll shell out some big bucks for this model though, and you may want to pick up a universal remote while you're at it.

In my opinion this TV looks as good or better than the ES8000 design-wise. A good chunk of dough has also been wiped from the price, so consider this one of my top value pics for 2013/2014. The only thing it gives up from the top model are the micro dimming ultimate, though it still has micro dimming, and it has a dual core processor rather than the quad-core, and no front facing camera.

  • The 55-inch F7100 is not worth $2,499 (though it's available right now for $1,699). While Samsung's Smart Hub (and the cable connectivity therein) is probably the best smart platform on the market, it's still only a smart platform. On one hand, this TV looks great, and is fitted with all of the modern accoutrement you might want with an investment in a new display. Be warned, though: It has a few drawbacks that make me hesitate to praise it further.

  • The Sharp LE650 series sets the big-screen LCD TV value bar high with very good picture quality for the price.

  • There aren't many 60-inch LED Smart TV's that can be had for $1,100. Actually, at the time of this review, we were only able to find one near that price: The Vizio E601i. And since we've not had the opportunity to review that particular model, we can't draw a comparison. However, we can say that the Sharp LE650 offers great value.

You won't get inky blacks, deep shadow detail or spectacular contrast from this TV, but what you will get is excellent color, outstanding brightness and an interface that is a delight to use.

  • The Sharp LC-70LE650 is a huge 70-inch LCD HDTV with very good overall image quality as it has good black levels and color-accuracy. The sound could be better and the price is high compared to other large TVs, but it is an impressive set.

  • The Samsung F5500 plasma offers great features and very good picture quality, but its performance suffers significantly under the lights.

The PN51F5500 is the smallest size in the mid tier plasma series from Samsung. Picture quality is strong here but it lacks a bit when compared to the top tier F8500 plasma. This is to be expected, but the feature set is still quite good. The F5500 uses Active 3D to create 3D images, Samsung's new Smart Hub is offered with all the apps and online content you would ever need. It loses the built in front-facing camera, but voice interaction is present a lot more useful than we initially thought it would be.
