  • The 32 inch M321d sells for a modest $398 and is very attractively priced for this size and feature set. The LG 32LN5700 has the same set of features and sells for a bit more. This TV should be a great seller.

  • The midrange LG LA6200 LED LCD TV gets points for looks and smarts, but loses even more due to its picture quality.

  • This is one of the best features of the 55LA6200, value. At $1100 it's tough to beat in the 55" size for value. It competes with the Panasonic TC-P55ST60. Samsung's answer is the UN55F6400. The LA6200 is one of the best value buys in the market.

  • If you need a bigger panel without a price tag to match, the LA6200 series is a pretty decent bet. This isn't an exciting TV - the black levels are middling and the controls are downright spartan. But if you aren't a picture purist and fancy features like apps and 3D are important to you, you could do a lot worse.

My advice? Do yourself a favor and take a look at the Google-powered TVs from LG this year instead.

  • If you want a really big TV and don't want to pay very much, the 58-inch TCL LE58FHDE3010 is an acceptable choice.

  • The Panasonic TC-PS60 plasma TV's low price, high-end picture quality, and bare-bones Smarts make it one of the best values we've ever seen.

  • The Panasonic TC-P60S60 (MSRP $1299) is one of the first (if not the first) 2013 series available on the consumer market. While Sharp is shipping a few of its new models, Panasonic's S60 series became available for pre-order first: The higher-end ST60 series won't hit our labs until next month. In a way, our pent-up excitement for the new tech expected this year became channeled into this first real taste of 2013. Our first impression? The S60 is going to be a tough act to follow.

The suggested retail price for the 60 inch S60 is set at a fantastic $1,299.99. Considering the amount of screen space and picture quality you get with this TV, the value is hard to beat.

  • The 42 inch 42LN5700 is a great value piece if you want that great LED edge lit backlighting from LG and tons of features sans 3D at around $650. And since plasma TVs are not produced in the 42 inch size range anymore this is a standout in terms of quality and value for 2013/2014.
