Family-friendly waterproof and shockproof point-and-shoot
The Nikon Coolpix S30 is an inexpensive, family-friendly waterproof point-and-shoot that's best used outdoors in good lighting and with slow-moving or stationary subjects. If you need more than that, be prepared to spend more than $120 on a different camera.
Good value for money
The Nikon Coolpix S30 is a waterproof camera that is easy to use and designed to survive being dropped and generally treated in a less than ideal way. This makes it ideal for families or those with small children, especially as it's design makes it very easy to use. The camera is good value for money and while it does not feature many controls, it should keep the point and shoot user happy with bright colourful photos that will be good for web use or prints up to A4.
Affordable rugged compact
Overall, we think that the Coolpix S30 offers an affordable weatherproof option for shutterbugs on a budget. Despite having a smaller feature-set than its tougher AW100 brother, its low price makes it attractive to users who want something hardy without breaking the bank--from frugal, globe-trotting backpackers to parents looking for their child's first camera
Family-friendly waterproof camera
All in all, Nikon Coolpix S30 is one among the affordable yet feature-packed cameras. Undoubtedly, it delivers somewhat lesser than the other performers in the line, but still the performance that it delivers is simply cherishable. So, if you are tight on budget and wants to explore your photography experience, this snapper is nice pick to consider!
Ok for a one time use
I bought this camera in a bind I was in need of one, had moved, and my camera was packed away and not with me at the time. I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong but most of the pictures seem out of focus and blurry even if you mess with the settings. If you want a close up it seems like you can forget it, the closer the worse it is. I got stuck outside in a very bad storm hiking in a strong steady rain for about 1-2 hours.
Good colour reproduction
If you are on a budget but want a camera that is waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof, the XP20 ticks the box. You can spend a little more and get the XP30 which has GPS. The camera isn't going to win any prizes for image quality, and if this is important to you then look elsewhere. But for your money, the XP20 offers images with good colour reproduction which are going to look great on Facebook and Flickr, as long as they haven't been taken using ISO 3200.
