I purchased this dryer along with the Amana 3.4 dryer and am not disappointed at all. From someone who grew up with the popular name brands like Kenmore, Whirlpool and Maytag, I think they are all overpriced garbage compared to Amana. It's been over 50 loads since I purchased this dryer and I love how much time I save doing laundry. I can fit over twice the amount of articles into this dryer and my old one claimed to be around the same size.
Better than expected
was looking for a good replacement for my 11-year-old GE gas dryer. I didn't want a lot of fancy computers, knobs, lights, and other things that break. I found this dryer on a major home improvement store website but it was not available in the store, only in their web store. I had no idea that Amazon carried major appliances so I was surprised when I found the very same model for less money. I took what I thought was a big risk and ordered it.
Great little dryer for apartments
I bought this dryer over a year ago and use it at least once a week. It's great and dries your clothes pretty quickly. Not as fast as a full-size electric dryer, mind you, but the drying time is not bad for something that runs on regular house current. I vent this dryer right into the room as it's in my living room and it doesn't make the room noticeably hotter. As another reviewer mentioned the clothes I dried in this picked up some kind of a skunky chemical smell when I first got it.
Makes everything smell like a skunk
We would like the dryer if it didn't make everything we run through it smell faintly like skunk (just enough to annoy you all day long). We thought this might just be an initial thing but we've run something like 30 loads so far and it hasn't gotten better. This may just be something specific to our dryer. Besides the smell, the dryer is a decent value. The settings are simple and straight-forward and it dries clothes so it does the job otherwise.
Dryer that does not dry clothes
We inherited a new Bosch HE washer/condenser dryer set with our house. We were so excited! Don't have to go buy new appliances! But now I know why they left them here.
The dryer condenser is not well designed. It is flat, so the condensate doesn't drain well. Then it becomes full of water, then it stops condensing, then the clothes don't get dry.
