Excellent 2D & 3D images, Great value price
Viewers after the latest and greatest collection of apps should look beyond the DMP-BDT230 and head for a Samsung deck. However, if you're after the very finest picture quality not only from 2D and 3D Blu-ray, but from upscaled DVDs, too, the low-priced DMP-BDT230 is dead centre of the sweet-spot.
Loads discs very quickly
The DMP-BDT230 powers up and loads discs very quickly, and I didn't encounter any freezes or stutters during disc playback. The player passed all of the 480i/1080i processing tests on the HQV Benchmark DVD and HD HQV Benchmark Blu-ray disc (Silicon Optix). For the most part, it cleanly rendered my real-world DVD scenes from Gladiator (DreamWorks) and The Bourne Identity (Universal), producing only an instant of moir in both scenes before it locked onto the 3:2 cadence.
Top 2D & 3D picture quality, Smart TV
The Panasonic DMP-BDT230 costs a little more than the average Blu-Ray player, but it delivers a lot more. Whilst most Blu-Ray players do pretty much the same job, the BDT230 delivers a little extra. Not only does it include 3D playback, Smart TV and built-in Wi-Fi, but it over-delivers on picture quality and audio quality. You won't find better than this unless you're prepared to increase your budget considerably.
Solid, powerful sound, Rich, natural colours
The Panasonic might not be the smartest player around, but it is one of the best-performing: great picture and accomplished sound.
Effective, faithful playback
The DMP-BDT230 is another fine player to emerge from Panasonicâ??s stables. It plays everything flawlessly, includes a very good set of well-maintained apps and it certainly wonâ??t break the bank. Recommended.
A excellent Network and disk player
If you're looking for a solid disk and network player, the BDP-S5100 is well worth a look. Is it worth upgrading from last years BDP-S590? ... well, only if you are a heavy youtube user would I consider it. The BDP-S590 was already a excellent Bluray player, and Sony has only done a few incremental improvements here.
Very capable Blu-Ray player with 3D playback
It costs a bit more than the other Sony Blu-Ray players, but not enough to break the bank. If you're buying this is conjunction with a new TV you won't even notice the price difference. Since the BDP-S5100 includes 3D playback and built-in Wi-Fi, we'd recommend that you choose this one instead of one of the cheaper models. It's always a good policy to future-proof yourself as much as possible when buying tech.
Clean, sharp images, Impressive detail in dark scenes
If the BDP-S5100 is any indication of what's to come, 2013 could be a bumper year for Sony's Blu-ray players. This has all the hallmarks of a class-leading machine.
