Very disappointed. temperamental machine. shuts off on its own and sometimes you can't turn it off. skips on the remote. sound on Netflix must be adjusted as it won't have any sound if set to Dolby. ( default) sketchy wireless connection. cheap feeling remote with no light response on machine at click. would not recommend. would be happier to do a Mexican hat dance on this machine rather than use it.
Flawed Device That Locks Frequently
My biggest problem with this machine, and the reason why I'm going to be returning it, is the fact that it just doesn't play like it ought to. It frequently freezes up, usually when you're trying to access a service or disc, and sometimes during playback of a disc. Sometimes it won't respond at all to commands either from the remote or pressing the Eject and On/Off buttons on the device.
Screen size and clarity is awesome
I'm so in love with this player already, the screen is beautiful and easy on the eyes. Was easy to set up. Even non blue-ray disks were crystal clear.
Comes with a handy travel bag and an adapter which allows you to play the movie in the player and watch it on your bigger tv screen at home using either audio/video composite cables or HDMI. Neither the composite or HDMI cable is supplied.
Great Screens, One key missing feature
First off the screens are beautiful. Very high resolution and crisp image, way better than our previous DVD player. There is one feature though that is missing from this that is present on the DVD players, and that is that the DVD does not resume from where it left off when the car is turned off. This is a bit of the pain as with Blue-rays it takes quite a while to load and get through the title menus and skip the previews.
Simple user interface
Philips BDP5506 is an excellent Blu-ray player with built in Wi-Fi, simple user interface, 3D compatibility and some high quality online streaming media services like Netflix, Pandora and Vudu. Its MediaConnect screencasting feature enables you to stream the screen of a notebook directly to BDP5506. With this device, you can enjoy the latest in Blu-ray technology, from wireless access to 3D playback to video on social networking and Demand favorites.
Disappointing wi-fi & netflix support
This review addresses only the wi-fi & netflix functionality of this player. I think that's fair since you shouldn't be considering it unless you are specifically interested in those features. If you aren't, there's a wide variety of capable, non-networked blu-ray players that are much less expensive.
First off, the wireless card in this player didn't impress me.
