Bluetooth hands-free calling rounds out a strong feature set
The Magellan SmartGPS bridges a gap between connected navigation apps and car-friendly GPS hardware with its ability to sync with the cloud and connect to the Web via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but its busy interface could use fewer moving parts.
Good features, but kinda unreliable
The voice navigation is the worst I've seen in a GPS so far. The voice is clear and loud enough, but its annoying that you're stuck with only one voice choice. Worse though....its often inaccurate! For instance, it often says 'Continue 1 mile on main street' when it actually means 'Continue 1 mile UNTIL main street'. I've seen that happen alot with it. A few times I've seen it give turn directions slightly after I passed the street I was supposed to turn on.
Huge Screen & Lots of Route Flexibility
Lackluster windshield mount and a user interface that's getting long in the tooth aside, the RoadMate 9250T-LMB excels in the most important area: routing. It's easy to customize the route to avoid certain roads, maximize or minimize highway usage, or simply detour around a traffic jam for a few miles and then resume the planned route.
The huge 7-inch screen and support for the optional Magellan wireless backup camera will please RV/large vehicle drivers.
Feature Rich but Performance Poor
The top-of-the-line feature list promises 5-stars worth in a small package. While the 5265T-LMB barely meets my expectation for use with the back-up camera; the delivery of all other features suffer, from poor reception which affects both initial start-up, to the subsequent performance issues(screen freezes, Bluetooth drops, etc.) - thus I say 2-stars overall. For my other GPS installations without a backup camera, I'm sticking with Garmin.
Responsive and improved speed
The Magellan RoadMate 5265T-LMB is another 5-inch GPS coming into an already crowded field. However, this new model brings a new Bluetooth Safe Texting feature that lets you safely reply to incoming calls with pre-written texts. It also comes loaded with a AAA Tour Book Guide which is great for traveling in unfamiliar places.

OK Overall, Navigation Somewhat Subpar
The washed-out screen, the somewhat finicky navigation, and the mechanical voice leave a lot of room for improvement. I would definitely recommend that you take a look at some of the Garmin navigators if they are available for trucking purposes. (I don't know much about them in this category.) The only category of drivers that might be better of with this navigator are the RVers, truckers and drivers of large vans. For everyone else this would not be such a great deal.
The only item I am still reporting to the tech support folks is the location of the vehicle on the screen is not where you actually are. It displays the vehicle behind. Example - if you were stopped in the middle of an intersection, the screen would show you are not quite at the intersection. My old Roadmate was so accurate, it showed the car was in the middle of the intersection, when you were actually right there.
Navigation experience is both intuitive and robust
The new RoadMate 2230T-LM provides a perfect blend of navigation features starting with the security of Free Lifetime Map Updates and the convenience of Free Lifetime Traffic Alerts. Drive knowing you have the latest road changes in your navigation. Should there be a reported traffic incident or delay on your route, the RoadMate 2230T-LM will chart the most efficient course around it.
In addition to these two high end features, this GPS navigator boasts a rich set of new features!
Multi-destination routing performed well
Overall the Magellan 2230T-LM is a decent GPS. It comes with all of the features most people need and makes both short trips and long journeys simpler. It is easy to use and pretty much everything you will access most often is quick to get to. The slow response time and overly bright screen were letdowns, but not really deal breakers, just something you have to live with.
But really nothing about the 2230T-LM stood out that much to me.
RoadMate navigation experience is both intuitive and robust
The new RoadMate 2220-LM introduces the security of Free Lifetime Map Updates. With the ability to update your maps up to four times a year you can rest easy that you are driving with the latest road changes in your navigator.
RV & Large vehicle features
The Magellan RoadMate Pro 9165T is a RV/large vehicle GPS with a large 7-inch touchscreen, a 6 million points of interest database with Good Sam and real-time traffic. It has features geared towards large vehicles, like the ability to plan routes that can handle your vehicle's size and type.
6 Million of points of interest
Magellan probably does not expect the Magellan RoadMate RV9145-LM to be one of their best-selling devices since not everyone owns an RV. But Magellan currently has that target audience locked in as 7-inch GPS devices are rare and tablets with GPS functions simply lack in features and are not very accurate. RV owners get a wonderful treat from the route planning to the Good Sam Trailer Life Directory.
You would be a beta tester for buggy GPS software on the unit
I returned the unit after a week of use. The latest map update for the older Magellan GPS at this time was v45. The new 2012 unit, like the 5220-LM had an even newer map with v47. No other software/map updates were available at the time of my ownership. Here is the software info on the unit of the time of my use:
