Great value as a quiet, performance drive
When we consider the qualities we like to see in a "green" hard drive, the Deskstar 5K3000 2TB is middle of the road. Its energy efficiency is unable to touch WD's Caviar Green series, though it is a big improvement over Seagate's Barracuda Green/LP. The 5K3000 is a very quiet drive, but again, can't match the Caviar Greens, which are practically inaudible.
Good Price Per Gigabyte
Performance is typically one of the areas that suffers most for green classed hard drives. Hitachi's Deskstar 5K3000 seems to buck this trend by offering better performance than the competition in terms or reading and writing data to the drive. The downside is that it isn't as cool or quiet as the competition. It is still a good choice for those looking to add some extra storage space to a desktop for a great price for the 2TB model.
Testing of the Caviar SE16 750GB drive showed strong overall performance.
The Western Digital Caviar SE16 may not have the highest storage capacity on the market, but it makes up for that with a more affordable price and strong overall performance. This is an excellent choice as a primary or secondary storage drive for those looking for good overall space, solid performance and low noise operationg.
Hitachi delivers its highest-performing hard drive ever with the introduction of the Ultrastar 15K147. With average seek times as fast as 3.3 ms, average latency of 2 ms, and as much as 33 percent more in I/Os per second than its 10, 000 RPM rivals, enterprise customers can access their data more quickly and efficiently.
