Overall performance is slow
Western Digital's 4TB My Book World Edition II NAS device is an easy and reasonably cheap way to store large amounts of data in a central location. Its overall performance is slow, but for tasks where speed isn't critical this NAS device is a decent choice.
Speedy file read times
The competitively priced Western Digital My Book Live Duo is a two-drive network attached storage (NAS) device that offers an astounding 4TB of storage capacity. It's very easy to use and offers speedy file read times, but it does lack some features and the latest USB 3.0 connectivity.
Drive is relatively quiet
Compact and light enough to easily fit in a backpack or briefcase, Western Digitalâ?? s My Book Studio external hard drive is a cute little bugger. Designed to resemble a book, the 6.5-inch tall drive stands upright, and you have the option of digitally labeling your drive (with 12 characters or less) so itâ?? ll read like a title on the binding a book.
Designed specifically for a Mac, this plug-in-and-go drive is compatible with Appleâ??
Fully featured Mac software
Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition is quite possibly the sexiest external hard drive we've seen, if we're allowed to call external hard drives that. The powdered silver casing is one of luxury, a single stretched ovoid line lit by white LEDs calmly and serenely tracks back and forth when it's in use.
Works great on a pc and mac
I purchased this external drive to back-up my images - but without using back-up software, however, and in that regard this Toshiba External Hard Drive works perfectly (I merely copy/paste files). It does not 'force' you to install the back-up software, which is what I wanted -- in fact, it does not even ask, which is perfect!
Surprisingly little noise during operation
The G-DRIVE Mini from G-Technologies (Hitachi) is a nice addition to any notebook computer needing extra or backup storage although more so for Mac users than PC users with the FireWire 800 interface being the best option for data speeds.
Performs Well, Looks Nice, No Obnoxiously Bright Light
I bought this for a backup drive for my home file server. The server just supports USB 2, but I was pleased to see the product had an included 2 to USB 3 cable. It worked right away, and I formatted it to EXT4 without incident and ran a surface scan that passed just fine. While I have the server in a small rack, I was pleased to see lights were not like many other external drives: fully illuminating rooms with an amazingly bright bright blue light.
Fast, efficient storage for Macs and PC's
It's hard to make any hard disk stand out from the crowd these days, but the Backup Plus provides fast, efficient storage for Macs and PCs, along with useful software that keeps your photos safe even if you upload them onto Facebook straight from your phone.
Fast, light and reasonably compact
As a portable hard drive, we actually can't fault the Seagate. It's quick and simple to use. Windows 7 recognises it with no problems, and there's no drivers to install - at least, none that require the user intervene. It's quick, light and simple to use. So when it comes to storage, it's all good.
The social and backup apps are a little less impressive. They work, but the reduced image sizes on downloaded images doesn't impress us.
Drive Lock Encryption
The 2TB My Book for Mac External Hard Drive from Western Digital is a desktop hard drive with a standard USB 2.0 interface and an illuminated capacity gauge that gives you a visual indication of how much space is available on the disk.
Designed for use with Mac OS X systems, the drive is preformatted with the HFS+ file system. It is compatible with Time Machine, allowing you to use it as an external backup drive.
Windows-friendly- lacks FireWire but supports USB 2.0
This product is a tricky one to weigh as far as pros and cons go. It is definitely a value hard drive, since it features humungous two-terabyte storage capacity. Unfortunately, the drive speed is a downgrade compared to preceding models. If you're looking for a high-performance hard drive that features 7200rpm and FireWire, then you may want to consider a lower-capacity Seagate or competing hard drive.
