WOW for the price
I chose this receiver because it had the four HDMI inputs and I had a similar model for 6 years that served me well until one too many moves caused it to go out. This receiver has all of the functionality that I was looking for in a solid, but still affordable receiver.
The sound quality is great on movies and games, but I get a small amount of static when I watch TV on it. I believe that is caused by my cable box, but I have yet to diagnose that problem fully.
Excellent quality audio for the price
The Yamaha YHT-393 is a home theater system with 5.1 surround sound. There's a total of 600 Watts of power, including the 5 independent surround sound channels and the 100W subwoofer. Cinema DSP ensures that sounds are perceived as coming from the correct direction, and the system accommodates the perception of surround sound through headphones through the use of Virtual Cinema DSP.
Very good value
While this unit won't compare sonically to a full-on 5.1 or 7.1 surround system and separate receiver, it is a great solution for the space- and design-conscious buyer. If you want more power or need more inputs, consider spending the extra $400 to step up to the YSP-4000, which has slightly more features, more inputs, more drivers and more power.
decent sat/sub speaker package
We think the HT-BD2T's sleek design looks slick, especially the curvy receiver/Blu-ray player. The system's gloss black finish completes the impression of upscale componentry. Overall sound quality and dynamic punch are better than average. Then again, judged from a price/performance standpoint you can do better. Consider, for example, Samsung's very similar but less expensive ($799) HT-BD2ET Blu-ray Home Theater System as an alternative.
