Centrally mounted control panel is fairly easy to grasp
The Dell isn't the best choice for top-speed high-quality text, but it still fares reasonably well in these areas. More crucially, it offers some very impressive paper handling for the money. If you need a cheap but robust page-churner to serve a number of systems in a small or medium office, this is a fantastic option.
Excellent Laser Printer
I purchased this printer about 2 weeks ago and am very satisfied with it. It replaced a Lexmark E260DN. The Brother is noticeably quieter, slightly faster, can print from IOS devices (eg. iPad) and has much lower toner costs. A few years ago I also had a Brother HL-5250DN laser printer. It was a great printer, BUT after I upgraded to Windows 7 it would change its IP address when the computer was re-booted. To say the least that was annoying and I could not find a fix.
Good-quality output and incredibly affordable toner
Though it may not be fancy or overly fast, the Brother HL-5470DW has all the connectivity options you'll need, as well as good-quality output and incredibly affordable toner. It would be nice, however, to see Brother upgrade its control-panel technology and design one of these days. If you're seeking alternatives, the Samsung ML-3712ND is in the same price range as the HL-5470DW, but its toner is much costlier.
Print speeds, Print quality, Low initial cost
The Brother HL-5470dw is a single function monochrome laser printer, so like the HL-6180dw, there is no frills or unnecessary extras, keeping the price low at $249.99.
But that doesn't mean the HL-5470dw isn't an excellent printer because with print speeds up to 40 ppm, automatic duplexing, a 550-sheet paper capacity and network connectivity (Ethernet and Wi-Fi), it's a model in relability and efficency.
An amazingly functional unit in a very attractive package
Its older sibling, the QL720NW, adds an Ethernet interface as well as a serial port. However, for general home office use, the QL710W is a sufficiently powerful machine, especially when considering its accompanying software suite. Printing speed in particular is to be seen to be believed.
Best for small or home offices
The Dell C1660w's expensive toner and light-duty capabilities make it best for small or home offices. Before you reach automatically for a laser, however, it's worth noting that office-minded inkjets offer better speed, competitive print quality, and much cheaper inks--and their multifunction cousins add more capabilities.
Excellent Printer !! FAST !!
The 8100 Pro is just a printer. That's all it does. But, it does it so well! As a teacher, my wife does a lot of high volume printing. Print speed and ink cartridge life are paramount. This printer delivers. While your average inkjet printer will deliver 7 pages per minute, this one shoots pages out at 20+ per minute. Even at high resolution settings, it's still 3X as fast as any other injet we have.
