  • The sleek styling of the ASUS MeMO Pad 7 ME176CX combined with its zippy 1.33-GHz Intel Atom Baytrail processor makes this slate a steal at $149. While the battery life does not live up to last year's model, it's a fine trade-off for the increased performance. Those looking for even more speed and stylus input should take a look at the EVGA Tegra Note 7 tablet, but it's a more expensive $189 and doesn't last as long on a charge. Overall, we highly recommend the MeMO Pad 7 to anyone looking for a small-budget Android tablet.

  • - Screen quality is very good, battery life is commendable and while we take issue with some of the approaches to software taken here, performance is strong.
    - Beaten on pure value by some.
    - Hard plastic back comes across a little cheap.
    - Too many pre-installed apps.
    - Fairly powerful 64-bit CPU.
    - The MeMO Pad 7 ME572C also offers proper stereo speakers, but they’re not a total smash.

  • The MeMO Pad 7 is easily one of the fastest 7-inch tablets you can get for under $200, but you'll miss out on extras like high-quality cameras and video output.
The MeMO Pad 8 delivers a pretty big punch for a $200, 8-inch tablet -- just be aware that a few rivals offer sharper displays for similar cash.

  • The Asus MeMO Pad 7 is a bit thinner and lighter than most budget-friendly Android tablets, but some competitors offer better overall value.

Overall, we highly recommend the MeMO Pad 7 to anyone looking for a small-budget Android tablet.

  • - The Asus Memo Pad 7 is a sturdy and reliable little tablet with good stamina, but at this point Asus needs to think about upgrading to a 1080p screen.
    - Things like this graceless socket and the pretty tactless positioning of the charge and headphone sockets are signs that this tablet has no style pretensions.
    - You can max out its volume without worrying about crackly speaker distortion and it’s not painfully tinny, but sound quality isn’t great either.
    - Screen resolution is too low.

  • The Dell Venue 7 is one of the best small tablet bargains. The larger Venue 8 is just as capable, however there are other 8-inch slates that offer more features for the same price.

  • - The front face also picks up fingerprints and smudges like crazy.
    - As such, Rs. 14,999 seems like a little too much for this device.
    - The speaker is loud and mostly clear.
    - Reading long documents did not pose any problem, and colours were generally vibrant except when the device was used under direct sunlight.
    - Battery life was also impressive, with the device lasting 7 hours, 9 minutes in our video loop test.

  • The LG G Pad 7.0 strikes a nice balance between price and features, making it a good starting point for entry-level Android tablets.

  • It's super-cheap, but unless you particularly want a 7-inch tablet or really can't stretch your budget, the Hudl 2 is a much smarter option.

  • It's hard not to be critical of the LG G Pad 7.0 because it's a notable step down from the excellent G Pad 8.3 model - and not just in size terms. Strip away that aluminium shell, align the resolution to match the lower spec of the Tesco Hudl, and it's a shadow of its more powerful cousin. But that's a given at the cut-down price point. Search online and you'll find the LG for around £115 which sees it stands shoulder-to-shoulder against its near competitors, such as the Asus MeMo Pad 7.

  • Google's Nexus 7 continues to set the bar for small-screen tablets with a perfect balance between price and performance.

  • The Nexus 7 2 is better in almost every single way than its predecessor. It's slicker, faster and sleeker than any other 7-inch tablet on the market right now, and only the rear facing camera lets it down. At £199 it's also a little pricier, but well worth the extra pennies.

  • If you're looking for a 7-inch tablet, we'll put it like this: there is no better alternative on the market, right now.
