When you first hear about it, the ability to convert 2D video to 3D with the JVC GZ-HM960 sounds kinda cool. When you really get into the feature, however, you'll see that it's more or a disappointment than anything else. All the camcorder does when you press the large, blue 3D button is it produces a fake 3D effect.
Great image quality
The Everio GZ-HM960BEK is a decidedly strange camcorder, although we've come to expect this kind of left-field approach from JVC. Its image quality is excellent, and it has a decent array of manual settings. The 2D/3D conversion also works better than you would expect. However, the inclusion of this technology and the glasses-free 3D display have pushed the price of this camcorder to equal or more than the top-end 2D-only models from JVC's main competitors.
extremely stylish, attractive camcorder
Traditional camcorders have a basic style that hasn’t really changed since the ‘80s. Oh, you’ll see a few attempts at a vertical shape now and then, or some fun with body materials, like the new Samsung models that use the Touch of Color finish first seen on Samsung HDTVs. But JVC has taken a completely radical approach with its Everio X, a high-def video maker that looks like a chic clutch held by a Louis Vuitton model scampering down a catwalk.
very attractive, high-quality 1080p camcorder
The JVC Everio X (GZ-X900) is an extraordinarily compact digital camcorder capable of capturing video at full HD 1080p resolution. Read our in-depth review to see if it manages to slim down without sacrificing quality. By Michael Patrick Brady.
effective widescreen video resolution
Based on the HDR-TG5V’s diminutive size, some folks might be tempted to think of Sony’s new ultra-compact HD Handycam as being little more than a Flip with an inflated price tag. But that’s just not so. This little marvel of consumer-grade camcorder engineering has most of the same features found in Sony’s portlier high-definition video cameras, including SteadyShot image stabilization, manual focus, and even a relatively large internal solid-state drive capable of holding hours worth of...
the onboard memory will be sufficient for over three and a half hours of footage.
The Canon Legria FS21 has a lot going for it. Video performance is great for a camcorder this size and there are a few extra capabilities readily available when you want a little bit more control. However, its image quality is slightly behind JVC's Everio GZ-MS120 in low light. The JVC is lacking a few of the Canon's features and you will need to add your own memory as none is built in. But at over £100 less than the FS21, it's better value overall. Â
The Sony HDR-CX300 is a HDV camcorder that is simple to use and captures high-quality video and images with astounding color. We were disappointed with the memory available and wish we saw a few features that would set this HDV camcorder apart from others on the market.
The Panasonic HDC-HS250K is an HDV camcorder that is simple to operate and will provide you with high quality images. This is a device targeted towards a beginner as it lacks a lot of higher-quality features found in other devices. However, this device did everything it said it would do and we were not disappointed.
